Brian Maguire
Brian Maguire exhibits widely throughout Europe and America. He represented Ireland at the 1998 Sao Paulo Biennial and last year in Korea in the Race Face exhibition at the National Gallery. A major ten year retrospective of his work ‘ Inside Out’, was held at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin and traveled on to the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, Texas, in 2000 and the Crawford art Gallery, Cork, in 2001. His latest residency saw him working with women from two correctional institutes in New York. This residency resulted in an exhibition of Maguire's work which was exhibited, alongside that of the women in the correctional facilities, in the White Box space in Chelsea, New York. The artist created a large scale 60 ft. billboard for outdoor display in lower Manhattan. In 2000 Maguire was appointed Professor of Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Among the many collections, both public and private, in which he is represented, are those of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin, the Alvar Aalto Museum, Finland, the Gemeente Museum, The Hague, Netherlands and the collection of Ed and Nancy Kienholz.
